Kit Manufacturer

Sponsors

The first-ever shirt sponsor for Oxford United was a local free newspaper. If I recall correctly, the Sunday Journal featured sports results from the previous day and was owned by former club chairman Tony Rosser.

Home Kit & Away Variations

Long
sleeves

The 1981/82 Adidas shirts featured subtle differences compared to the previous season’s kits. The collars were less flared, and the Adidas badge was positioned lower on the chest.

Once again, the yellow change shorts were the old Admiral shorts from the 1970s; however, in the second half of the season, Adidas yellow shorts were finally provided.

The iconic three-stripe Adidas socks were worn at the start of the season, plain yellow socks became more common as the season progressed.

Away Kit

There were no alterations to the red change kit, and in all probability, it would have been the same garments as used the previous season.

Goalkeeper Jerseys

Sponsored Shirts

Long
sleeves

In 1979 Liverpool became the first English club to wear a sponsored shirt. This opened the floodgates for other clubs to seek sponsorship deals.

From 31st October, Oxford United wore sponsored shirts, featuring the business of director Tony Rosser, a local newspaper 'The Sunday Journal'.

However, TV companies were resolute in refusing to cover matches which featured sponsored shirts, resulting in clubs having to wear plain shirts for televised matches. (Coventry City FA Cup).
